Britain's most beautiful places to live revealed

From quaint villages to historic hamlets and secluded seaside hideouts, the UK is home to thousands of beautiful places to live - and now the most aesthetically pleasing of all have been named by local property specialist Leaders.

Kevin Shaw, national sales director at Leaders, says: “Studies show people with a home in calm and attractive surroundings are happier than those who live in towns and cities, and in the UK we are blessed to have such a huge selection of beautiful places to live.

5) Ombersley, Worcestershire

Ombersley dates back to the eighth century, when the village was referred to in a charter granted to Saint Egwin of Evesham Abbey. The distinctive style of many of its properties - based on a black and white timber frame - sets it apart from many other villages of a similar era and gives it a picture postcard feel.

4) Blakeney, Norfolk

The north Norfolk seaside village of Blakeney offers a slower pace of life and delightful views across uninterrupted marshland and the North Sea. The shingle and sand spit next to the village is as popular with walkers and playful children as it is with rare birds and plants. Away from the picturesque coastline, Blakeney offers quiet streets with flint cottages and traditional tea rooms.

3) Burford, Oxfordshire

Burford is considered to be the gateway to the Cotswolds. This beautiful old town is centred on its high street, which slopes gently towards the river. Ancient cottages and shops that still bear a resemblance to Tudor times line the streets. Exploring Burford’s tiny side streets and quota of old pubs offers further opportunities to experience life from yesteryear.

2) Slinfold, West Sussex

Sussex is a county packed with quintessential English villages - and none are more impressive than Slinfold, which lies about four miles west of Horsham. At its centre is a magnificent church, which was rebuilt in 1861 and is based on a classic design with tower and spire. Slinfold also offers a great mix of properties, including sprawling country estates and spacious family homes.

1) Brockenhurst, Hampshire

Set in the heart of the New Forest National Park’s heritage area, Brockenhurst is a village with bundles of charm and history. The area is home to wild ponies, deer, donkeys and cows, all of which are known to roam the high street, as well as a number of weirs that join to flow as one through Brockenhurst. Locals have the enchanting forest at their fingertips, a selection of warm and inviting pubs to enjoy, as well as nearby Exbury Gardens to explore.
